More Than a Racing Name: The Greyhounds Who Shaped Hounds in Homes ❤️

Over the years, so many beautiful greyhounds have passed through Hounds in Homes. Some stayed briefly, some needed a little longer, and a few decided they were never leaving!

Some raced, some never made it to the track, and others never even had a racing name. But every one of them mattered.

Behind every name is a story, a personality, a foster carer who opened their home and a greyhound who deserved the opportunity to live a life of their own.

This is our little tribute to the hounds who have shaped Hounds in Homes. ❤️

And the many greyhounds simply identified as "Black Dog" or "Brindle B".

Some never raced, some had no recorded racing history, and others were known only by a description.

Whatever their background, they were always individuals to us, deserving of kindness, dignity and a home where they could simply be dogs.

Some Stayed, Some Moved On, All Left Their Mark

Many of these beautiful souls are still enjoying life with their families. Others have sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind people who loved them dearly.

And then there's Marcus (Blaze to Excel), who never left the building!

Our gentle, loyal and incredibly snuggly resident hound continues to be a wonderful ambassador for greyhounds. He enjoys life in Baulkham Hills and occasionally bumps into his brother Jerry.

Marcus reminds us every day why we do what we do.

Over the years, we have deliberately reduced our intake and the number of foster carers and volunteers.

Not because our commitment has changed, but because we believe rescue should never become a numbers game.

We want to know the greyhounds in our care, support our foster families and take the time to find the right homes.

We also believe our volunteers deserve time for their own families and lives outside rescue.

Being smaller allows us to remain focused, sustainable and committed to doing right by each individual greyhound.

We don't measure success by how many dogs we rehome, but by the quality of the lives they go on to live.
