We are a small, ethical greyhound rescue dedicated to doing what is right for the individual hound in front of us.
We are small, but always ethical.
Hounds in Homes is a small, volunteer-run greyhound rescue and rehoming group. We work with retired racing greyhounds who need a safe place to land and the opportunity to discover life as a much-loved pet.
We don't measure our success by how many greyhounds we can move through rescue. We measure it by whether we have made the right decisions for each individual hound.
Every greyhound deserves to be seen as an individual.
We don't believe in one-size-fits-all rescue.
Every greyhound that comes into our care brings their own history, personality, experiences and needs.
Our foster carers give each hound the time and space they need to settle into life away from racing. This allows us to learn who they really are rather than making assumptions based on their past.
We then use what we learn to help find a home that is genuinely suitable for that individual greyhound.
Why we work the way we do
Rescue is not simply about getting a greyhound from one place to another. It is about creating the best possible foundation for the rest of their life.
We don't rush
We understand there are greyhounds waiting for help. We see the numbers and the urgency. But years of experience have shown us that taking the time to get the right match creates better and more sustainable outcomes.
We work as a team
Our foster carers, volunteers and supporters all play an important role. We share information, experience and observations so we can make informed decisions for each hound.
We put the hound first
Our decisions are guided by what is best for the greyhound, not by numbers, pressure or the desire to move quickly.
Taking our time is part of doing rescue well.
Not rushing doesn't mean we don't understand how many greyhounds need help. We do.
It means we use our experience to understand that rehoming takes time. A greyhound may need time to decompress, learn about home life, overcome challenges or simply discover who they are.
Our aim is not just to find a home. It is to create a sustainable home where the greyhound and their family can thrive together.
We believe in being open.
Transparency has been part of Hounds in Homes from day one. We believe our supporters, adopters, foster carers and community deserve to understand why we work the way we do.
Every resource matters.
Hounds in Homes operates as a not-for-profit rescue. The resources available to us are used to support the greyhounds in our care and help us continue our work.
Rescue should be inclusive.
We are an inclusive organisation and believe in diversity. Greyhound rescue is a community made up of many different people, experiences, backgrounds and perspectives.
What brings us together is simple: we care about greyhounds and want to see them have safe, happy and sustainable lives.
Growing in experience, not just in size.
As we reflect and grow, our goal isn't necessarily to become bigger. It is to become better.
We learn from every greyhound that comes through our doors. That experience helps us continually improve how we assess, foster, support and rehome the hounds in our care.
By doing this, we hope to improve the sustainability of the homes we create and give each greyhound the best possible chance of a successful future.
