🐾 The Story of Hounds in Homes: A Journey of Learning, Mistakes, and Purpose
Starting a rescue isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about being willing to ask the hard questions and learn along the way. At Hounds in Homes, that’s exactly what our journey has been.
Before founding this rescue, we spent many years working in the world of dog rescue. And to be honest? We made plenty of mistakes. Some were small, some were big. But each one taught us something — about dogs, about people, about ethics, and about the kind of organisation we wanted to be.

In 2021, we decided it was time to do things differently. That’s when Hounds in Homes was born — not as a competitor to the larger, industry-affiliated groups, but as a safe and truly ethical alternative. One that exists solely for the dogs. We even collaborated with GWIC and E-Trac in the hope of driving meaningful change around animal welfare and improving the conditions in racing kennels.
We wanted to give greyhounds a voice. A real one. Free from racing interests. Free from fast adoptions. Free from expectations that don’t fit their unique personalities.
This journey hasn’t been perfect either. We've still stumbled. But the difference now is that we’ve surrounded ourselves with likeminded, compassionate people who care deeply about doing things the right way. Together, we’ve created a foster network that takes things slowly, prioritises welfare over convenience, and puts every dog’s individual needs first.
Hounds in Homes is — and always will be — about animal rights, ethical practices, and transparent rescue work. We’re here to give greyhounds the lives they deserve, not just homes.
So if you’re looking for a rescue that chooses the dog over the dollar, that believes in second (and third) chances, and that never stops learning — you’ve found us.
Thanks for being part of our journey. 🐶💛
We’re not here to compete with big names. We’re here to offer something different. Something slower. Gentler. More thoughtful.

You're doing more important work than just about anyone else out there, and it shows in the results - so many hounds finding a place that wouldn't have made it without you.
I'm sorry it's been tough, but I hope it's rewarding every day.
Winter is such a beautiful girl!
