What to Look for in Greyhound Clothing -
As someone who's handled countless greyhounds—from new fosters to long-term couch potatoes—I can tell you: not all dog clothing works for greys. They have unique needs, and the wrong fit can cause more harm than good.
Here’s what I always look for:
1. Soft, Stretchy Materials
Greyhounds have thin skin and little body fat. Fabrics need to be gentle and warm.
-
Fleece (with 4-way stretch): Cosy, flexible, ideal for winter. This is important for everyday wear from roaching on lounges to playing freely
-
100% cotton jersey: Breathable, good for indoors or summer. Can be dampened to keep black-coated hounds cool.
2. Easy to Put On
Clothing should go on with minimal fuss, some greys don't like to bend their legs, or may have arthritic joints.
-
Wide neck opening: No forcing over sensitive heads and pulling at the seams when they lay down
-
Large leg holes: Room for long, awkward legs.
-
Stretch trim: Helps ease the outfit on without pulling or twisting limbs.
3. Martingale-Friendly
Greyhounds wear wide collars. Their clothing should:
-
Fit around or under the collar comfortably.
-
Not interfere with the leash or collar movement.
Why we recommend Greyt Life Collective
Greyt Life makes gear specifically for greyhounds. One of our greyhound loving volunteers designed it based on real handling experience.
Even better? A percentage of each sale is donated back to Hounds in Homes. We’ve even received Hounds in Homes branded sweaters and tees for our foster dogs—keeping them warm while spreading the word about adoption.
